Sailing with Jake and Sharon

JAKE is our 1989 Hunter Legend 45 purchased new in December, 1989.  Prior to purchasing JAKE, we (Jake and Sharon Howard) owned a Hunter 40, a Hunter 37 Cutter, a US 305, and an Ensenada 20.  We have been sailing for 27 years and have lived aboard most of our various boats for 26 years.

Our sailing experience has taken us through all the waters of Puget Sound in Washington State, The Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound in British Columbia and beyond which includes a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island in 1991.  We have also done three separate charters in the British Virgin Islands as well as two separate charters out of San Diego.  In 2004, 2005, and 2006, we crewed in the Swiftsure International Yacht Race out of Victoria, British Columbia along with our good friends and dock mates from E-Dock at Shilshole Bay Marina, Seattle which is our home port.

Our long awaited cruising plans have us leaving Shilshole Bay Marina on August 3rd, 2007 with a planned arrival in the Southern California/San Diego area at the beginning of September.  We plan on exploring Catalina Island and other So Cal destinations during September and October.  We are planning on participating in the Baja Ha-Ha which departs San Diego on October 29th.  The Ha-Ha is an annual race/cruise from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with two stops along the way.  In 2006, there were approximately 160 boats in the Ha-Ha.

After the Mexican cruising season, our plans are a little indefinite but we are leaning towards going south (below the hurricane line) to Costa Rica from April to November, 2008.  Future plans include the South Pacific Islands and just generally kicking back and enjoying the cruising lifestyle wherever it may take us.
